Giants coaching rumors: Mike Sullivan to interview for OC position

New York could bring back a familiar face for its vacant offensive coordinator job.

The New York Giants are planning to interview former Buccaneers offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan for their vacant job, according to NFL.com.

Sullivan and the Giants know each other well from his seven years experience in New York. He served as wide receiver and quarterback coach for the team, before leaving in 2012 to join Greg Schiano as offensive coordinator in Tampa Bay.

Long-standing coordinator Kevin Gilbride retired earlier this month, necessitating a search for his replacement. Sullivan was in the running for several head coaching jobs following a 7-9 season with the Buccaneers in 2012, but ultimately returned to the organization for Schiano’s final year.

Sullivan is a rare coach with experience on both sides of the ball. A defensive back in his playing days, he coached linebackers and secondary at Army before making the jump to the NFL, where he started as a quality control assistant with the Jacksonville Jaguars. His career took a turn at this point, and Sullivan began focusing on offense before eventually winding up in New York.
