Oakland Raiders head coach Dennis Allen has emerged from Tuesday night's dreaded team meeting with his job intact. Team owner Mark Davis told ESPN.com that Allen will remain the head coach for the 2014 season.
Dennis Allen to remain Raiders head coach
Team owner Mark Davis says Allen will be retained for the 2014 season and that an organizational meeting held Tuesday night was “protocol.”

Allen, who led the Raiders to their second consecutive 4-12 finish this season, was called into an organizational meeting on Tuesday night, prompting rampant speculation that the team was prepared to fire him amidst a dustup over his coaching staff.
ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez reported Monday that Allen and Raiders execs were at odds over the contracts of his assistant coaches. Allen was reportedly seeking two-year extensions for all of them, while the team was only willing to offer one year. The contracts of all of Allen’s assistants are expiring, except for those of offensive coordinator Greg Olson and linebackers coach Bob Sanders.
ESPN’s John Clayton reported Tuesday morning that “at least six” assistants will be retained.
Davis called the meeting end of year “protocol” and insisted that Allen’s job security was not discussed. Allen has two years remaining on his own contract.
Oakland has had a notoriously quick trigger finger with its coaches over the last decade. The organization has thumbed through seven head coaches since Bill Callahan took them to the Super Bowl in 2002. They have not had a winning season in that span.
Here is a list of those coaches and their overall record with the team:
| Coach | Years | Record |
| Bill Callahan | 2002-'03 | 15-17 |
| Norv Turner | 2004-'05 | 9-23 |
| Art Shell | 2006 | 2-14 |
| Lane Kiffin | 2007-'08 | 5-15 |
| Tom Cable | 2008-'10 | 17-27 |
| Hue Jackson | 2011 | 8-8 |
| Dennis Allen | 2012-present | 8-24 |
