Vanderbilt head coach James Franklin is next up to interview with the Washington Redskins, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports. Franklin will reportedly meet with the organization on Thursday. Franklin has been a popular man in recent days, with reports linking him to the vacant head coaching position at Penn State.

Franklin led the normally dormant Commodores to back-to-back 9-4 seasons, which is no small feat for a non-traditional powerhouse playing in the powerhouse-heavy SEC. He took Vanderbilt to three straight bowl games after the program had gone to just one over the course of its previous 28 seasons.
Though Franklin has spent just one year coaching in the NFL -- he handled wide receivers for the Green Bay Packers in 2005 -- he has nonetheless been linked to several open NFL head coaching positions. According to La Canfora, the Cleveland Browns have also done extensive research on Franklin, and could call the coach in for an interview in due time. He also reportedly interviewed for the Houston Texans job that went to Bill O'Brien.
Franklin isn't the only name to be associated with the Redskins since the organization fired Mike Shanahan. Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden interviewed with Washington on Wednesday, and is now reportedly considered the favorite to land the job.
Other names linked to the Redskins include Dallas Cowboys special teams coach Rich Biscaccia, Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman, Baylor head coach Art Briles, Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Jim Caldwell, Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Sean McDermott and Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell.
