C.J. Spiller carted off with broken collarbone, ruled out vs. Vikings
C.J. Spiller suffered a broken collarbone against the Vikings, and has been ruled out according to reports.
Spiller reeled off a 52-yard run against the Minnesota Vikings then went down to the turf hard. He was distraught after the play, spotted with a towel over his head and seemingly in pain.
With their top two running backs off the field, the Bills are down to Anthony Dixon and blocking fullback Frank Summers to handle the rushing load in what is shaping up to be a tight game. Dixon has had three carries for 15 yards, and should be a capable replacement, if much less explosive than Spiller.
The carry was Spiller’s first on the day. He and Jackson have been a productive tandem in Buffalo, but both have struggled with injuries at times. Spiller hasn’t had the heavy workload he might prefer this season. If he misses extended time, it could hurt his standing with the team. Spiller is scheduled to become a free agent after the 2014 season.
