Robert Griffin III is closer to returning from the ankle injury he suffered in Week 2 than most thought he would be, as Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Washington believes the quarterback will be ready to play on Week 8.
RG3 plans to return for Week 8
Griffin suffered a dislocated ankle in Week 2, but hopes to be back before the end of October.
Griffin, 24, suffered what was diagnosed as a dislocated ankle on a non-contact play against the Jacksonville Jaguars in the second game of the season. After being carted off the field with an aircast around his leg, most assumed it was the end of this 2014 season.
In his place, Washington has started third-year quarterback Kirk Cousins, who started strong but has tailed off considerably. In Week 2, Cousins tallied 250 yards passing with two touchdowns and no interceptions, and followed that effort with 427 yards and three touchdowns the following week in a losing effort against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Cousins struggled mightily in a Thursday Night Football matchup against the New York Giants, though. He finished with four interceptions in a 45-14 loss that had some fans calling for Rex Grossman to replace Cousins.
In 30 career starts, Griffin has 36 touchdowns, 17 interceptions and a 13-17 record. If he manages to return in Week 8, Griffin will face the Dallas Cowboys before a Week 9 bye.
