Cam Newton is in the starting lineup for the Carolina Panthers less than two weeks after the quarterback suffered two fractures in his back in a car accident, according to the team's Twitter account.
Cam Newton will start vs. Browns
The Carolina Panthers’ quarterback missed just one game after suffering a back injury in a car accident earlier in December.

The Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback sat out Week 15 after the accident earlier in December, but will play Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. Newton suffered two transverse process fractures, the same injury that happened to Dallas Cowboys' quarterback Tony Romo, who also only missed one game. Newton will wear a protective vest under his jersey against the Browns to avoid further injury.
Newton, 25, has compiled a 3-8-1 record as the starter for the Panthers in 2014 and has a career-low passer rating of 81.8. He had his best game of the year prior to the injury though, throwing for 226 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions in a 41-10 victory over the New Orleans Saints in Week 14.
The Panthers can still earn a spot in the postseason, but need a loss from the Saints to open the door for a chance at the NFC South crown. Carolina finishes the year with a home game against the Browns, followed by a road game against the Atlanta Falcons.
