The New England Patriots will try to bounce back from a difficult loss when they travel west to face the San Diego Chargers on Sunday Night Football.

The Patriots and Chargers will battle for playoff positioning in their Week 14 matchup.

Sitting at 9-3, New England still holds the No.1 seed in the AFC and has an advantage to retain that positioning. The Patriots would have to finish with a worse overall record than the Denver Broncos and Indianapolis Colts to fall out of the top spot because they have head-to-head wins against those opponents. Both wins came over the last five weeks, a stretch that includes a victory against the Detroit Lions and a loss to the Green Bay Packers last Sunday.
The Chargers (8-4) hold the No. 5 seed in the AFC and are just a game behind the Broncos (9-3) for first place in the AFC West. They're also fighting off six 7-5 teams for those final two Wild Card spots in the AFC. San Diego has been streaky over the last six weeks, losing three straight before winning three straight. Their final four games of the season will feature a gauntlet of playoff contenders: The Chargers are slated to face the Broncos, 49ers and Chiefs after Sunday's meeting with the Patriots.
Needless to say, a lot is riding on this game for both teams, and it’s no surprise this matchup is getting the primetime treatment on Sunday night.
