Washington players give ‘hands up’ sign in support of Michael Brown

Washington’s defensive backs took the field together on Monday night with a nod to the protests happening in Ferguson, Mo.

Washington's secondary came onto the field during introductions during Monday night's preseason game against the Cleveland Browns with their hands raised, a nod to the protests in Ferguson, Mo., over the killing of Michael Brown.

The idea started with safety Brandon Meriweather and cornerback DeAngelo Hall.

Meriweather explained the decision to the media after the game. “We just want to show our supporters what’s going on in St. Louis,” he said. “We just wanted to show support.”

"That could have been any one of our brothers, our cousins," safety Ryan Clark added. "When you get an opportunity to make a statement, and be more than a football player, it's good."
