An awful day of injuries to some of the league's best offensive skill players is ending with another big name out for the 49ers on Sunday Night Football. Vernon Davis suffered an ankle injury late in the second half, limping off after hauling in a short pass from Colin Kaepernick.
Vernon Davis ruled out with ankle injury late in 49ers vs. Bears
The Niners lose one of their key offensive weapons late in the game on Sunday night.
The injury wasn't immediately noticeable -- there was no big hit or dramatic ankle turn -- but Davis did labor to the sideline. Then with just over four minutes to go in the game, the 49ers announced that he had been ruled OUT. At the time, the Niners were down one score to the Bears. Holding him back may be a case of the 49ers taking extra caution late in a game in just the second week of the season, but he was certainly missed on a late drive as San Francisco tried to pull even.
Davis was a key contributor last week in the 49ers rout of the Cowboys, hauling in four catches and two touchdowns, including a 29-yarder that demoralized Dallas early. He had three catches for 39 yards against the Bears when he went out with the injury.
