It’s been an eventful Sunday in the NFL. The defending champs were on the losing end while the Bills and Bengals are among the teams off to impressive 2-0 starts. The 49ers looked good early, but Chicago rallied in the second half to pull the upset.

Ed Szczepanski-USA TODAY SportsLatest injury news on RGIII, Jamaal Charles

Patrick SmithIt was a bad Sunday for injuries in the NFL, as a slew of star players bit the dust with potentially serious ailments. Beginning with RGIII’s dislocated ankle, let’s run through the latest updates from the notable names.
RGIII landed awkwardly on his left ankle in the first quarter, lay prone for roughly five minutes on the sideline and was carted off to the locker room in an air cast. The diagnosis is a dislocated ankle, and the recovery time is up for debate. Pro Football Talk reports Washington is hoping to have its quarterback on the field in four to five weeks, but Benjamin Shaffer, an orthopedic surgeon who spoke with The Washington Post, said the best-case scenario would have Griffin missing eight weeks -- the worst case would be season-ending (Shaffer was speaking from a general sense, though -- he has not personally diagnosed Griffin). We should have a better sense of a recovery timetable on Monday after the quarterback undergoes an MRI.

Rob CarrThe hits just keep on coming for RG3, whose season is in jeopardy after dislocating his left ankle in the first quarter of Sunday’s 41-10 win over Jacksonville. (Update: Griffin out with dislocated ankle, timetable uncertain.) The third-year quarterback suffered the injury when rolling out of the pocket on a pass play. After slipping out of a tackle, he landed awkwardly on his ankle and threw the ball before crumpling on the sideline. Griffin was finally fully healthy after tearing his ACL in Jan. 2013, an injury that caused him to struggle through last year’s campaign.
The tibia, fibula, and talus bones make up the ankle joint, which is bound together by the joint capsule and surrounding ligaments. An ankle dislocation takes place when enough force is placed on the joint to cause the bones to slip out of alignment, causing what is typically an extremely stable joint to lose stability entirely, not to mention a great deal of pain and swelling. This is associated with tearing of the ligaments that hold the bones in place. Dislocated ankles are most commonly associated with fractures of the ankle bones as well.

Jeff GrossThe 49ers had control early, jumping out to a 17-0 lead. Chicago’s maligned defense showed up, looking a little more like the opportunistic Lovie Smith units of old. The Bears defense had four turnovers, including two critical fourth-quarter interceptions by rookie corner Kyle Fuller. His first pick led to a Bears touchdown and their first lead of the night.
Here’s what we learned from on Sunday night.

Jeff GrossWillie Young really likes fishing

Chicago Bears defensive end Willie Young must really like fishing. Either that or his DVR is full of Whose Line is it Anyway? episodes and he’s become inspired to work on his improv.
This has become his go-to sack dance, not that it’s really a dance. He’s done it twice now. Which means he only prepared one celebration for getting a sack. Believe in yourself dude.

Except it didn’t. The referees indicated that the Jets had called their final timeout before the play, meaning the Jets essentially wiped out their own score.
Richardson isn’t on the field, so he isn’t allowed to call for timeout either. Jason McIntyre of The Big Lead speculated that the ref might’ve thought Richardson was Ryan since he was in the same spot as Ryan. It’s possible Richardson was acting on Ryan’s orders, but we certainly don’t see the only person actually authorized to call for a timeout calling for one.

The Packers have rallied back from being down 21-3 to being ahead 24-21, and the New York Jets don’t seem to be handling it well: after a TD and two-point conversion from Aaron Rodgers to Randall Cobb, the two sides started scrapping, with Muhammad Wilkerson getting tossed from the game for throwing punches:
Wilkerson forgot rule No. 1 of punching someone wearing a helmet: Do not punch somebody wearing a helmet.

Harry HowMathews had been having a quiet day before leaving. A stout Seahawks defense had held him to 31 yards on 11 carries on the ground, and two receptions for 26 yards. The fumble was the team’s third of the day, but all were recovered by the Chargers.
San Diego is nursing a 27-21 lead in the fourth quarter. Mathews’ absence could be a big blow as the Chargers attempt to grind out a win over the defending Super Bowl champions. Primary rushing responsibilities now likely fall on Danny Woodhead and Donald Brown. The two have combined for 50 yards on 11 carries.

Silly Raiders, multiball is for pinball — not football.
Seriously though, the Oakland Raiders should be forced to play with two footballs on the field at once. Just because. This is a continuation of Oakland’s long-term plan: Revolutionizing the fumble game in the NFL.

1. To dress up like it’s Halloween a month early.

J.J. Watt **catches** a TD for the Texans
J.J. Watt is now the highest-paid defensive player of all time, but he’s good for more than just defense! The Texans put him in at tight end on a goal-line pass play and when two Raiders players stuck with Arian Foster, Watt split into a unguarded spot in the end zone and caught his first NFL receiving touchdown:
How exactly you miss a 6’5, 290-pounder, we’re not fully sure. Watt actually isn’t completely unfamiliar with the offensive side of the ball -- he initially went to Central Michigan as a tight end before transferring to Wisconsin, where he was (rightfully) converted to defensive end.
