Rob Bironas, former Titans kicker, dies in single-car accident
Rob Bironas reportedly lost control of his SUV and was killed late Saturday night.

Bironas, who lived near where the crash occurred, lost control of his SUV and went off the road, striking several trees before coming to rest upside down, according to Jim Wyatt of the Tennesseean. He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and pronounced dead on arrival.
“We are deeply saddened to hear the tragic news from last night about Rob Bironas. Rob made a significant impact as a player in his nine years with the team and more importantly touched many lives in the Nashville community off the field. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, Rachel, and his family during this very difficult time.”
After three years at Auburn, Bironas transferred and played his final collegiate season at Georgia Southern. He was undrafted in the 2001 NFL Draft, but earned a contract with the Green Bay Packers in 2002. After brief stops with the Buccaneers, Steelers and the Arena Football League, Bironas settled with the Titans in 2005.
Over nine seasons with the Titans, Bironas accumulated more than 1,000 points, joining Al Del Greco as the only other player to accomplish the feat with the franchise. He also earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2007. He was the fourth most accurate field goal kicker in NFL history at 85.7 percent.
On Sunday, SB Nation’s Titans blog, Music City Miracles, reacted to the news:
I can remember waking up on Sunday mornings in the fall and seeing the “2” jerseys in my neighborhood as kids would play basketball or football. Even when I started playing sports in high school, fans would show up with Bironas jerseys to the local football games. This feels like more than losing a player, it feels like a cornerstone of my (and a lot of other Titans fans) childhood is now gone.
Bironas, who was 36, married the daughter of former Steelers quarterback and current FOX analyst Terry Bradshaw in June.
