The NFL and the NFL Players Association agreed on a new drug policy on Monday and the agreement will be presented to the player representatives for vote on Tuesday, according to Chris Mortensen of ESPN. The new deal will reportedly include testing for human growth hormone and also raise the limits for a positive test for marijuana.
NFL, NFL Players Association agree on a new drug policy pending a vote
With the two sides close to an agreement, player representatives will vote on a new NFL drug policy on Tuesday.

The two sides have yet to agree to all of the parameters, according to Mortensen, but they are close enough to a deal to put it to a vote. The revamped policy could have an immediate impact with currently suspended players like Cleveland’s Josh Gordon and Denver’s Wes Welker possibly up for early reinstatement. In some cases, a suspended player may not have tested positive under the new policy. Whether players in that situation are reinstated has raised issues among owners, according to Mortensen. Even if the suspensions do not change, the new policy would impact any player currently in the substance abuse policy.
The addition of HGH testing would settle what has been a long sticking point between the league and the players. The proposed policy would also include modifications to the current neutral arbitration system. Additional details have yet to be reported, including changes to the DUI policy. The two sides have been locked in negotiations recently and met for in-person negotiations on Monday.
