John Fox named Bears head coach

Fox did not wait long for his next head coaching gig, latching on with the Bears.

The Chicago Bears have hired John Fox to be their new head coach. Fox, who mutually parted ways with the Denver Broncos on Jan. 12, instantly became a top candidate around the league.

Fox has enjoyed plenty of success in the NFL. The 59-year-old has been the lead man with the Carolina Panthers and Broncos over the course of 13 seasons, twice advancing to the Super Bowl. In Denver, Fox won the AFC West all four years there with both Tim Tebow and Peyton Manning. Throughout his tenure in the Mile High City, the Broncos racked up a 38-10 regular-season record. However, Fox was undone with an upset loss in this year's AFC Divisional playoffs to the Indianapolis Colts.

Fox comes into a promising spot with the Bears, replacing Marc Trestman. Trestman only stayed in the job for two seasons before being ousted, compiling a 13-19 mark.

Despite going 5-11 in 2014, Chicago has ample talent on the offensive side of the ball with Jay Cutler, Matt Forte, Brandon Marshall, Alshon Jeffery and Martellus Bennett in tow. The defense is the larger issue, but perhaps one Fox can remedy with the background of a former defensive coordinator. Chicago ranked 30th and 31st in total defense and points allowed, respectively.

With the seventh overall pick and $27.5 million of projected cap space, Fox will have opportunities to change the look of the Bears, along with recently hired general manager Ryan Pace.
