Mike Vick likely out another week after leaving Cardinals game with hamstring injury

Vick will test his hamstring later in the week.

Jason Bridge-USA TODAY Sports

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mike Vick will likely be out another week after he left Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals with a hamstring injury. He has a "tiny tear" and will test it again Wednesday, but according to Aditi Kinkhabwala of NFL Network, Vick doesn't think he'll be ready for the Steelers' Week 7 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Vick started the last three games in place of Ben Roethlisberger, who has been out with an MCL injury. There’s a chance Roethlisberger could be back to start against the Chiefs, but if he’s not ready, the Steelers will turn to third-year quarterback Landry Jones.

Jones was a fourth-round pick by the Steelers in 2013 and had not attempted a regular season pass going into Sunday’s game. But he shined in his first real NFL action. The 24-year-old completed 8 of 12 passes for two touchdowns, helping lead the Steelers to a 25-13 win.

Before exiting the game for good, Vick left for a series after he scrambled and went to the ground at the end of his run, taking a hard knee to his helmet from Cardinals linebacker Kevin Minter. His head was pushed into the ground on the hit.

Vick appeared to be taken out of the game by the officials the first time. They can take a player out if they think he might have sustained a head injury. Ed Hochuli appeared to order Vick to the sidelines to be evaluated for a concussion. The training staff did not spend much time looking at him and the Steelers announced he had dirt in his eye.

He was replaced by Jones but then returned on the next series. After a handful of plays, Vick left the game again and was stretching on the sideline.

Vick was playing well coming into the game, completing 63.8 percent of his passes for 365 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. He also had 52 yards rushing. He struggled against the Cardinals, though, with just three completed passes for 6 yards. He added 47 yards on the ground before leaving.
