With six weeks in the books and Week 7 just getting started, no team is anywhere close to clinching a postseason spot or getting eliminated. However, a few teams have staked their claims in the standings. But despite an undefeated record, the New England Patriots could lose their stake at the top of the AFC East.
2015 NFL playoff odds, Week 7: AFC East lead on the line
The Patriots and Jets are both projected to make the postseason, but will battle for the AFC East lead in Week 7.
No game will have a greater impact on postseason odds than a trip for the New York Jets to New England, where they have a chance at taking the lead in the AFC East with a win. Both the Patriots and the Jets are in the top five of the Super Bowl odds on Football Outsiders, and both could be postseason-bound regardless of the Week 7 results.
According to FO, the Patriots have a 98.6 percent chance at the playoffs, while the Jets aren’t too far behind with an 80.2 percent chance.
The only other division with two teams above 80 percent is the NFC South, where the resurgent Carolina Panthers and Atlanta Falcons are carrying the torch for a division that didn't have a single winning record in 2014.
The Falcons have an 86.9 percent chance at the playoffs and aren't expected to have much trouble with the Zach Mettenberger-led Tennessee Titans, who have just a 12.8 percent chance at the postseason in the weak AFC South.
The Panthers, who boast an 89.3 percent chance at the playoffs, have a bigger challenge, though. One week after beating the Seattle Seahawks, the Panthers now face the challenge of taking out the NFC East-leading Philadelphia Eagles, who have a 52.8 percent chance at winning their division.
No division has greater disparity than the NFC North, which is being dominated by the Green Bay Packers. With a 27-20 victory over the San Diego Chargers, the Packers improved to 6-0 and passed over the Patriots as the team most likely to win the Super Bowl. While Green Bay is on a Week 7 bye, their 98.7 percent chance at winning the division can swell even more if the Minnesota Vikings lose to the Detroit Lions and gift the Packers a three-game lead.
While the Patriots earned a 34-27 victory over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 6, it wasn't a very impressive one to the Football Outsiders computers, and dropped the team's chances at winning Super Bowl 50 from 31.4 to 24.3 percent.
The chances for the Arizona Cardinals also dropped, thanks to a 25-13 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers that left many scratching their heads about a team that has looked dominant at times and fraudulent at others. Still, the Cardinals have a 76.8 percent chance at winning the NFC West and can expand that with a Monday Night Football matchup against the Baltimore Ravens, who have just a 2.4 percent chance at the playoffs.
With 11 weeks left to play, these are the current favorites to win the Super Bowl, according to Football Outsiders:
| No. | Team | Super Bowl win |
| 1 | Green Bay Packers | 24.6 percent |
| 2 | New England Patriots | 24.3 percent |
| 3 | Arizona Cardinals | 16.4 percent |
| 4 | Cincinnati Bengals | 14.7 percent |
| 5 | New York Jets | 4.3 percent |
