Odell Beckham Jr. off to best-ever start to WR career

No receiver in NFL history has more receptions or receiving yards through the first 16 games of their career than Odell Beckham Jr.

Noah K. Murray-USA TODAY Sports

New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. launched on to the national stage with a single reception, but that was just a small slice of the production that the receiver has managed to tally in his first 16 games. In fact, no receiver in NFL history has managed to rack up as many statistics through the first 16 games of their career than Beckham.

After a hamstring injury kept the 2014 first-round pick out of action for the first four weeks of his rookie season, he made up for lost time with 91 receptions for 1,305 yards and 12 touchdowns in the remainder of the year. The Giants are still playing the Buffalo Bills in their Week 4 game, but for now Beckham has 22 receptions for 393 yards through the first four weeks of 2015, giving him the top marks for both yards and receptions through 16 games.

The previous mark for yardage through the first 16 games was held by Bill Groman, who tallied 1,593 yards for the Houston Oilers to start his career. Groman’s huge production early in his career, which included 29 touchdowns in the first two seasons, trailed off quickly and his NFL career was over just four years later.

Beckham was already the leader in receptions through 16 games, now he's the leader for yardage and Sunday's slate of games aren't yet complete. Beckham doesn't own the record for touchdowns, and he doesn't have much time to eclipse the 17 touchdowns Randy Moss managed to record as a rookie for the Minnesota Vikings in 1998.

With headlines surrounding Beckham, and Victor Cruz still sidelined, the second-year receiver is drawing more attention than ever from opposing secondaries and is still managing to be productive, so don't expect Beckham to be slowing down any time soon.
