Houston Texans running back Arian Foster is finally making his season debut Sunday. Foster will suit up for the Texans’ Week 4 game against the Atlanta Falcons, according to Adam Schefter.
Arian Foster makes season debut for Texans in Week 4
The Texans are welcoming Arian Foster back to action after preseason groin surgery.
Foster missed the first three games of the season after undergoing groin surgery early in training camp. Early reports suggested that Foster could miss half the season, if not more, but his recovery went well and he’s back relatively early.
Foster’s return could not come at a better time for the Texans, whose offense sputtered without their workhorse back. Houston has averaged just 18.7 points per game so far, ranking 23rd in the league. Quarterback Brian Hoyer, the Week 1 starter, was already yanked in favor of Ryan Mallett. The Texans are 1-2 and they need a quick spark on the offense, which a healthy Foster should provide.
Though Foster is rarely healthy these days, he’s still one of the league’s best backs when he’s on the field. The 29-year-old made it through 13 games last season, rushing for 1,246 yards and eight touchdowns on 4.8 yards per carry. He added 38 catches for 327 yards and five additional touchdowns.
Houston’s offense is predicated on a strong running game to hide the questionable duo of Mallett and Hoyer. With Foster back on the field, we should start to see the ideal ground attack head coach Bill O’Brien envisioned in the offseason. If the defense holds up its end of the bargain, the Texans could be back in the playoff picture sooner than later.
