San Diego Chargers tight end Antonio Gates will be active for Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Gates, a favorite target of quarterback Philip Rivers, is dealing with a knee injury that forced him out of the team's Week 7 loss to the Oakland Raiders.
Antonio Gates will play vs. Ravens
Gates will be back in the lineup for the Chargers after sitting out in Week 7.
Gates has played in just two games this season to this point. He was suspended the first four weeks of the year for performance enhancing drugs, and returned against the Pittsburgh Steelers. He caught nine passes for 92 yards and was thrown to 11 times in that game. He also had a pair of touchdowns, and then caught nine more passes for 95 yards against the Green Bay Packers the following week.
Twenty-seven targets in two games is pretty significant, and it's obvious the Chargers will be glad to have him in action against the Ravens. Gates is playing in his 13th season in the league, and is coming off a year in which he caught 69 passes for 821 yards and 12 touchdowns. He's a huge red zone threat and while Ladarius Green has filled in well in his place, it's definitely not the same.
Green has 26 catches for 304 yards and four touchdowns on the season. Keenan Allen leads the Chargers with 62 catches for 690 yards and three touchdowns. The Chargers are 2-5 and trying to right the ship before it gets too late. The Ravens are 1-6 on the year and in even worse shape than the Chargers.
