Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Steve Smith is out for the rest of the season after suffering an Achilles tear against the San Diego Chargers. On Wednesday, the team officially placed him on injured reserve.

Smith was set to retire at the end of the season, which has now been cut short with an Achilles tear.

Smith went down hard and immediately called the training staff to attend him on the field. He was helped off the field he was unable to put any pressure on his right leg.
Smith seemed to take a bad step on his ankle after catching a pass from Joe Flacco:
Smith had five receptions for 82 yards before going down with the injury on Sunday. He is the top receiver in Baltimore and one of the few weapons for Flacco. On the season, he has 41 receptions for 588 yards and three touchdowns. He’s in his second season with the Ravens and recorded 79 catches for 1,065 yards and six touchdowns in 2014.
Smith, who is playing in his 15th season in the league, announced his plans to retire at the end of 2015. However, now that his season has been cut short by injury, Ravens coach John Harbaugh thinks Smith will come back and play another year:
