Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Landry Jones left Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns with a sprained left ankle. Ben Roethlisberger, who has been dealing with a foot injury, was able to come in and lead the Steelers to a lopsided victory. Mike Vick was inactive, but he will return to the second-string role after Pittsburgh's Week 11 bye:
Ben Roethlisberger returns early from injury to replace Landry Jones
Jones had to be carted to the locker room with a “pretty severe” ankle sprain
Speaking of QBs… #Steelers QB Landry Jones has a low-ankle sprain described as "pretty severe." Expect Mike Vick as the backup after the bye
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) November 16, 2015 Normally the Steeelers’ starting quarterback, Roethlisberger was healthy enough to be active for the game but not considered healthy enough to be given the start. He was the “in case of emergency” quarterback, who was when forced into action in the first quarter when Jones was carted off after sustaining the ankle injury.
Roethlisberger hit 22 of 33 passes for 379 yards and three touchdowns in Pittsburgh's 30-9 win, but had he gotten hurt, tight end Heath Miller would have been the emergency quarterback, according to Steelers PR.
Vick has played in five games this season, starting three. He’s completed 60.6 percent of his passes at an average of just 9.3 yards per catch, well behind Roethlisberger’s 13.4 and Jones’ 15.5. He has also been sacked on 13.2 percent of his dropbacks, while the other two quarterbacks are both under 5 percent.
