Mike Tomlin joins elite company with 90th regular season win as Steelers’ head coach

Tomlin now boasts a 90-51 record, becoming the third head coach in Steelers’ history to reach 90 wins.

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin reached a significant career milestone with 90 regular season wins by defeating the AFC North rival Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. Tomlin has a 90-51 record since taking over in 2007 and is now the third head coach in franchise history to reach 90 regular season wins.

Tomlin joins Chuck Noll and Bill Cowher as Steelers' coaches to hit the marks. Those are the last three coaches of the team and all three have provided Pittsburgh with at least one Super Bowl. Knoll was responsible for Super Bowls XIV, XIII, X and IX. Cowher's team won Super Bowl XL and Tomlin led the Steelers to victory in Super Bowl XLIII.

It took Tomlin just 141 games to reach 90 wins, while Cowher managed it in 149 games and Noll in 193. Of course, Noll inherited a much worse team and had a lot more work to do.

The Steelers also made NFL history on Sunday. Pittsburgh is the first franchise in NFL history to have three different head coaches reach at least 90 career regular season wins. As Tomlin wins more games, the Steelers will continue to set the record higher, as Cowher won 149 games and Noll won 193 of them.

Pittsburgh is now 8-5 and firmly in a battle for an AFC wild card spot. The division-leading Bengals fell to 10-3 and also lost Andy Dalton to a thumb injury in the game.
