Alex Smith makes it 9 games without an interception

Smith has completed 305 consecutive passes without an interception.

Cary Edmondson-USA TODAY Sports

Alex Smith finished a ninth consecutive game without an interception on Sunday, extending his streak of passes without throwing a pick to 305 by completing 16 of 22 passes for 162 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions against the Oakland Raiders.

With Smith avoiding turnovers and keeping the Kansas City Chiefs offense efficient, the team is on a roll and earned a sixth straight win by beating the Raiders, 34-20. After a 1-5 start to the year, the Chiefs are primed to earn an AFC Wild Card berth thanks to Smith's play. The Chiefs did have three fumbles on Sunday and two of them turned into turnovers, which they'll want to correct as soon as possible.

His streak of 305 passes without an interception is the third-best all-time, close to Bernie Kosar's streak of 308 pass attempts without an interception that spanned the 1990 and 1991 seasons. Smith still has some catching up to do to snag the record set by Tom Brady as well, who managed to throw 358 straight passes without an interception in 2010 and 2011.

The Chiefs will next play the San Diego Chargers, a team that entered Week 13 with just six interceptions, the fifth-lowest mark in the NFL.
