Darrelle Revis wasn’t the only Patriot cornerback with a pending option. New England also had an option decision to make on Brandon Browner and the Patriots declined it, making him a free agent. The Patriots opted against exercising Browner’s $2 million roster bonus, according to Ben Volin of the Boston Globe.
Brandon Browner becomes a free agent after Patriots decline option
Browner will hit the market after one season in New England.

Browner will instead hit the market for the second straight year. The 30-year-old spent one season with the Patriots after signing a three-year deal worth $16.8 million last season. The deal only included $1 million in guaranteed money, giving the Patriots the option to move on after a year. According to Albert Breer of NFL.com, Browner declined to take a paycut to stay with New England.
Injuries and penalties have been somewhat of an issue for Browner in recent seasons. He started nine games for New England last year during the regular season after playing in eight the year before. When he’s on the field, however, he’s one of the most physical corners in the NFL. That style won’t fit every team in the league, but Browner is expected to draw interest from multiple clubs, according to Mike Garafolo of Fox Sports.
