Brian Orakpo signs with Titans

The oft-injured pass rusher found a new home for 2015 and beyond.

One of the top free agent edge rushers available in free agency has found a new home. According to Adam Schefter, Brian Orakpo has signed a deal with the Tennessee Titans. He signed a four-year deal worth $27 million with $10.5 million guaranteed, according to Mike Garafolo of Fox.

Orakpo will have a nice compliment on the other side, with Tennessee re-signing Derrick Morgan to a four-year, $30 million deal, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports. Last year, Morgan had 6.5 sacks in his fifth season out of Georgia Tech.

Since entering the league in 2009, Orakpo has established himself as threat to sack the quarterback whenever he’s on the field. He averages more than 9.5 sacks in seasons ... when he plays in at least 15 games. Orakpo also has six forced fumbles and three recoveries so far in his career.

The best season of Orakpo’s career came as a rookie. He led Washington with 11 sacks, 7.5 of which came during the latter nine games of the year. Orakpo sacked Oakland Raiders quarterbacks Brad Gradkowski and JaMarcus Russell four times combined during an away game in December of that year.

The problem, however, has been his health. Orakpo has missed 24 games over the past three years with injuries. He tore his left pectoral muscle early in the 2012 season, a recurrence of an injury he suffered the previous year. Orakpo suffered yet another pectoral tear this past October, costing him over half of the 2014 season.

The 28 year old has made the Pro Bowl three times and has 40 sacks over his six seasons in the NFL.
