The New York Jets received a $100,000 fine for tampering with cornerback Darrelle Revis while he was still with the New England Patriots, Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports. The Pats filed tampering charges against the Jets in January after owner Woody Johnson said he would "love to have Darrelle back" during his postseason press conference.
Jets fined $100K for tampering with Darrelle Revis
The Jets finally received their slap on the wrist for owner Woody Johnson’s comments about Darrelle Revis at a postseason press conference.

Per the NFL’s anti-tampering rules, no one who is employed or affiliated with a team is allowed to express any interest in a player who is under contract with another franchise. Teams found in violation of the rules can be subjected to fines or loss of draft picks. In that regard, the Jets are getting off relatively light -- $100,000 should be a manageable setback for a franchise that brings in roughly $333 million in annual revenue.
Mehta also reported that the Patriots would not be docked for similar tampering charges filed against them by the Jets in March. Speaking at the NFL Annual Meeting, Pats owner Robert Kraft said that “the fan in me wishes that [Revis] were still with us.”
Revis signed a five-year, $70 million contract with the Jets this offseason after helping lead the Patriots to a Super Bowl title. He rose to stardom with the Jets, however, going to four Pro Bowls and earning AFC Defensive Player of the Year (2009) in six seasons in New York after being drafted in the first round of the 2007 NFL Draft.
According to Mehta, at least one other NFL team will be punished for tampering this year. In March, the league sent a letter to all 32 NFL teams stating it would be investigating multiple teams for allegedly reaching contract agreements with pending free agents before the start of the official free agency period.
