It took a while, but we finally have the first trade of the 2015 NFL Draft. The San Diego Chargers swapped picks with the San Francisco 49ers, moving up two spots in order to take Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon with the No. 15 overall pick.
2015 NFL Draft: Chargers, 49ers complete the day’s 1st trade
San Diego jumped up two spots to grab Melvin Gordon at No. 15.
In exchange for the 15th pick, the Chargers gave the Niners the No. 17 overall pick, a fourth-rounder in this year’s draft plus a fifth round pick in 2016.
It's no coincidence that the Niners moved back moments after the Miami Dolphins grabbed Louisville wideout DeVante Parker at No. 14. San Francisco, in the market for a legit No. 1 receiver, was reported to be high on the 6'3, 290-pound Parker.
The Chargers, meanwhile, desperately needed a more productive option in the backfield after limping through 2014 with the oft-injured trio of Danny Woodhead, Donald Brown and Branden Oliver. Gordon, who ran for 2,587 yards and 29 touchdowns last season, will provide plenty of explosiveness.
