With the No. 46 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers selected safety Jaquiski Tartt of Samford. Tartt went under the radar playing for Samford, and was the first player from the school to be invited to the Senior Bowl.
NFL Draft picks 2015: Jaquiski Tartt drafted by 49ers in 2nd round
The San Francisco 49ers landed small-school safety Jaquiski Tartt in the second round.

Tartt had a very productive career with Samford, coming on strong in 2012 with 94 tackles, 10 pass breakups and four interceptions that season. He’s been named an All-American each year since then, and has also been All-Conference multiple times on top of that. He was second on the team with 62 tackles in 2014. Over the course of his career, he compiled 277 tackles, six interceptions, 20 pass breakups and 6.5 tackles for loss.
Tartt has prototypical size and strength for the position, but he’s also impressed in other areas. At the NFL Scouting Combine, he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.53 seconds, among the best at his position. He also had a broad jump of 124 inches, also among the best among defensive backs. At Samford’s Pro Day, he put up a 33-inch vertical jump, ran the short shuttle in 4.29 seconds and the 3-cone drill in 7.03 seconds.
