With the No. 103 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the New York Jets selected quarterback Bryce Petty of Baylor. Petty was a very successful college quarterback, leading the Bears to a Big 12 Championship in 2013, his first season as a starter with the team.
NFL Draft picks 2015: Bryce Petty goes to Jets in 4th round
The New York Jets landed one of the top quarterbacks in this draft in the fourth round.

In 2014, he led the Bears to the Cotton Bowl Classic and threw for a record 550 yards, but he also threw an interception on the final possession as time expired, sealing Michigan State’s victory in that game. Still, he passed for 3,855 yards and 29 touchdowns with six rushing touchdowns this past season. In 2013, his first season as starter, he threw for 4,200 yards and 32 touchdowns with just three interceptions. That year, he also had 14 rushing touchdowns.
Outside of Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota, Petty may be the most NFL-ready quarterback. There wasn’t a lot of pre-draft hype for the quarterbacks after the top two, but Petty was productive in college, has a good arm for the NFL and looked plenty accurate at Baylor. There are some who think Petty needs to improve in his reads, given that Baylor used primarily a one-read system.
Petty will need some time to sit and learn and shouldn’t be considered an NFL starter at this point in his career. But the potential is there.
