NFL Draft results 2015: Jaguars take Rashad Greene

The Jacksonville Jaguars took Rashad Greene in the fifth round.

The Jacksonville Jaguars have chosen former Florida State wide receiver Rashad Greene with the No. 139 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. As one of Jameis Winston’s most trusted targets throughout his career as a Seminole, Greene thrived in big moments and proved himself deserving of his selection as a Biletnikoff Award semifinalist in 2014. In that same year, he became Florida State’s all-time leader in both receptions (270) and receiving yards (3,830).

Where Greene excels is in his versatility. Even at a modest 5’11, 182 pounds, he manages to play effectively on the outside in addition to the slot. He demonstrated the ability to make pro-style catches with consistency, while also showcasing a talent for adjusting to poor throws when needed. He pulled in a career-high 99 receptions for 1,365 yards in his senior year.

At the combine, Greene ran a 4.53 40-yard dash and posted a 36.5-inch vertical, with a broad jump of 122 inches. He mostly sat on those numbers at his pro day, electing only to participate in the vertical jump again. He put up almost the same number -- 36 inches.

One point of caution for the receiver is that he’s got a thin frame and has a tendency to be outmuscled. Getting stronger will be a priority as he enters training camp and works to compete at the next level. The good news here is that Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher had high praise for his work ethic and leadership qualities.

With the endorsement of his former coach, Greene figures to be a player whose personality will make him a good fit with his new teammates at the NFL level.
