NFL Draft picks 2015: Nick O’Leary taken by Bills

The Buffalo Bills took tight end Nick O’Leary in the sixth round of the NFL Draft.

Florida State tight end Nick O'Leary has been selected by the Buffalo Bills as the 194th overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft. The grandson of PGA TOUR legend Jack Nicklaus, O'Leary is a workmanlike receiver who has a solid list of credentials to his resume as a four-year player in the ACC. He capped his collegiate career by winning the John Mackey Award as the nation's best tight end in 2014.

Where O’Leary excels is in his versatility. Not only can he block and is smart in pass protection, but he also has reliable hands and hardly ever drops a pass. O’Leary is a fiery competitor and he’s willing to do the dirty work in order to help the team. That kind of attitude will help him as he tries to find footing as an NFL player.

Because he’s not the most athletic player, O’Leary will have to outwork opponents in order to compete at the next level. He’s not much of a deep threat, either -- he only had six catches of 25 yards or more for his entire career, none of which were during his senior campaign.

At the Combine, he recorded 4.93 40-yard dash and 30.5-inch vertical leap. He was among the top performers among tight ends with 21 reps on the bench press.

In any case, the Bills now have another player who can contribute in a variety of ways. O’Leary was drafted for a reason, and now the real work to prove he belongs can begin.
