NFL Draft picks 2015: Anthony Chickillo taken by Steelers

Anthony Chickillo was taken by the Steelers in the sixth round of the NFL Draft.

With the No. 212 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers selected defensive end Anthony Chickillo of Miami. Chickillo was a productive pass rusher at Miami, notching 12 sacks in three seasons with the team.

Chickillo was an honorable mention All-ACC player in 2012 and started 34 consecutive games for the Hurricanes. He’s not known as an explosive edge rusher, but he’s one of the more consistent and reliable defensive ends in this year’s draft. He finished his 2014 season with 41 tackles (4.5 of which were for a loss), a forced fumble three sacks and three passes defensed.

Chickillo is a versatile lineman who can play multiple spots on the line, but scouts have had issues labeling him and it could wind up being a curse rather than a blessing. He’ll need to add weight and get some coaching, but Chickillo is a reliable player with a high ceiling.

At the NFL Scouting Combine in February, he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.79 seconds and was among the top performers at his position in the three-cone drill (7.17 seconds) and the 20-yard shuttle (4.25 seconds). He also put up 27 reps on the bench press, posted a vertical leap of 34.5 inches and a broad jump of 114 inches.
