Chip Kelly says LeSean McCoy is ‘wrong’ about racism accusation

Chip Kelly covered a lot of ground speaking with reporters Thursday, discussing LeSean McCoy’s accusation of racism and the status of Tim Tebow, Sam Bradford and the quarterback depth chart.

Chip Kelly has sent the Philadelphia Eagles through a whirlwind this offseason, shipping LeSean McCoy to Buffalo and bringing in two of the NFL's most polarizing quarterbacks in Sam Bradford and Tim Tebow. McCoy compounded the attention on the franchise by accusing Kelly of getting rid "of all the black players" in an interview with ESPN.

Kelly addressed those comments and his personnel decisions in a forthright talk with reporters Thursday. Regarding McCoy’s accusation, Kelly said that the former Eagles running back is “wrong.”

McCoy also said that his relationship with Kelly “was never really great,” but both men mentioned having respect for one another. McCoy had a somewhat down season under Kelly last year, rushing for 1,319 yards at 4.2 yards per carry after rushing for 1,607 yards at 5.1 yards per carry during Kelly’s debut season as head coach.

Kelly also broke down the Eagles’ quarterback depth chart for reporters. More specifically, he said that Tebow is on it and will not be changing positions any time soon.

Tebow is one of four quarterbacks on the current roster after former Tulsa quarterback G.J. Kinne was converted to wide receiver, according to Kelly, and one of three quarterbacks practicing with Bradford taking a slow approach to his recovery.

Bradford is presumably vying for a starting role along with Mark Sanchez, who has been taking snaps with the first team while Bradford mends. Kelly pursued Bradford, so presumably he thinks highly of the 2010 No. 1 overall pick, but he was demur when asked about his expectations.

Kelly said that Bradford would begin throwing in 7-on-7 drills next week.
