New York Jets wide receiver Eric Decker was forced to leave Monday night's game against the Indianapolis Colts after suffering a knee injury. After undergoing an MRI Tuesday, Decker is considered "day to day" with a sprained knee, according to Jets head coach Todd Bowles.
Eric Decker ‘day to day’ with sprained knee
The Jets receiver had a huge first half against the Colts Monday night before going down with an injury.
“Time will tell,” Bowles said. “I’m hopeful, but it’s not out of the realm he won’t play either.”
Decker had a big game against a decimated Colts secondary, catching eight passes for 97 yards and a touchdown all in the first half when he was fully healthy. The Jets won the Week 2 matchup, 20-7.
His absence didn't have a major impact on the New York Jets' offense, but a longer absence could. The Jets have a strong receiving tandem in Decker and Brandon Marshall, and it may be all the help that quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick needs to run a competent offense.
Decker had just two catches for 37 yards in Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns, but one of the catches went for a score. He's a big part of the Jets' game plan even if Fitzpatrick can't get him the ball consistently. Through two games he has been targeted 14 times, behind only Marshall's 19 targets for the team lead.
If Decker sits, Jeremy Kerley, Chris Owusu and Quincy Enunwa will all be in line for more targets. In Week 3, the Jets host a desperate Philadelphia Eagles team aiming to win its first game of the season.
