The New England Patriots took an early 7-0 lead over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday thanks to a 43-yard touchdown run from LeGarrette Blount that left Los Angeles defensive back Maurice Alexander turned in circles.
LeGarrette Blount knew the Rams defense wouldn’t be able to tackle
Blount is a bruiser, but he’s also got some nifty moves in the open field.
Facing 4th-and-1 at the L.A. 43-yard line, Blount bounced to the right sideline before charging past Alexander, who turned a full 360 degrees before ineffectually diving at the tailback’s ankles. Eugene Sims eventually caught up to the Patriot, but not before he crashed into the end zone.
Blount and the rest of the New England offense will have to step up and fill the void left by All-Pro tight end Rob Gronkowski’s absence. Big runs like this one are a great start.
After the game, Blount admitted that he’d never seen anything like this before, a defender running away from a tackle. But he wasn’t surprised.
As brutal an assessment of the Rams defense as has been offered all season, but tough to deny after yet another listless effort from the unit that’s supposed to be the Rams’ strength.
