Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry was born in Atlanta. He grew up in the city. When he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, he underwent treatment there.

Berry is an Atlanta native and was treated for Hodgkin’s lymphoma in the city.
And now, he’s scored a touchdown in Atlanta.
The two-time All-Pro safety helped Kansas City take its first lead of the day after intercepting Matt Ryan late in the second quarter of Sunday’s game. Berry picked off the ball at the Atlanta 40, then weaved his way to the sideline where a convoy of blockers escorted him into the end zone to give the Chiefs a 20-16 halftime advantage.
It was a big moment for Berry, who made a beeline to the stands immediately afterward and handed the ball off to his mother. He discussed the importance of playing in Atlanta while wearing custom cleats for lymphoma awareness in an interview posted on the Chiefs’ official website earlier this week:
“Hopefully, through the way I play the game and the way I perform, people that are battling something or feel like they can’t do it, hopefully they look at me and say, ‘You know what? I can get up today,’ or ‘I will go to this treatment,’ or ‘I will give my best today.’”
Later, Berry made the play of the game when he picked off Ryan again.
This time, the Falcons had taken a one-point lead and were attempting a two-point conversion. Berry intercepted the pass and took it all the way to end zone to give the Chiefs two points, and the lead right back.
