Super Bowl 50 score: Broncos hold 16-7 lead over Panthers heading into final quarter

The Broncos built on their lead over the Panthers in the third quarter.

The Denver Broncos build on their narrow lead in the third quarter of Sunday's Super Bowl, and lead the Carolina Panthers, 16-7, heading into the fourth and final frame.

Going into the second half, the Broncos held a 13-7 lead and the Panthers came very close to closing that gap on their first possession of the half. They received the kickoff after deferring in the first, and went on a 10-play, 54-yard drive that unfortunately ended with a missed 44-yard field goal from Graham Gano.

The Broncos then responded with a field goal drive of their own, but Brandon McManus didn't miss his. The Broncos went 54 yards on seven plays in under three minutes, and McManus delivered the 30-yard field goal to increase Denver's lead to 16-7.

Cam Newton threw his first interception of the game on the following drive, unfortunately given a huge 42-yard reception by Corey Brown.

Just a handful of plays later, Newton threw what was probably the hardest pass he's thrown and it went just over Ted Ginn Jr., who couldn't handle it, and into the arms of Denver safety T.J. Ward. Ward fumbled it, but a teammate recovered and the Broncos had created another turnover with little time left in the third. Fortunately for the Panthers, it didn't lead to points and the two teams exchanged punts heading into the fourth quarter.
