There was controversy at Super Bowl 50 before the game even begun. One of the big prop bets of the day was the over/under for the length of the national anthem sung by Lady Gaga. Usually this would be a fairly simple exercise, but the pop star's rendition of "The Star-Spangled Banner" concluded with a stylish flourish that basically meant there were two endings to the song.
Lady Gaga’s national anthem prop bet controversy
Did Lady Gaga’s national anthem top the prop bet over/under for length? Thanks to a little bit of razzle dazzle at the end of her version of “The Star-Spangled Banner,” the answer isn’t quite that simple for sportsbooks.Watch on YouTube | Subscribe to SB Nation on YouTube
The over-under for the anthem was set at two minutes, 20 seconds. Lady Gaga initially appears to finish the song well before then, but then decides to repeat the ending of the song again. Going by the first ending, the length of the anthem would be under, but going by the second ending, it would be over. Different sportsbooks are treating the results in different ways, so whether you made out on your bet for the anthem depends on where you made the bet.
