Panthers WR Philly Brown leaves Super Bowl with concussion

The Panthers will miss Philly Brown, who left the Super Bowl with a head injury.

Carolina Panthers wide receiver Philly Brown left Sunday's Super Bowl against the Denver Broncos with a potential concussion. Brown went up high for a long pass from Cam Newton and left the game shortly after.

The receiver was also listed as having a calf injury, but he left to the locker room for the concussion evaluation. It was announced early in the final quarter that he would not return due to the head injury.

Brown was Carolina’s leading receiver when he left the game late in the third quarter, with four receptions for 80 yards, including the 42-yard reception that put the Panthers in scoring position. Unfortunately, the Panthers didn’t score on that drive as Newton was picked off a few plays later on a pass to Ted Ginn Jr.

Brown is one of Carolina's top receivers. That isn't saying much given tight end Greg Olsen led the team in receiving yardage this season, but any time without Brown could be huge. The Panthers trailed by two scores when Brown left the game.
