The Denver Broncos' 24-10 win over the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50 couldn't quite break the ratings record set in Super Bowl XLIX last year.

Super Bowl XLIX set the record for TV ratings and the Broncos and Panthers couldn’t quite push the record higher with Super Bowl 50.
Super Bowl 50 ratings peaked at 51.0/73 during the 10-10:15 p.m. ET range, indicating that 51 percent of television-equipped households were tuned in and 73 percent of all television-equipped households with a television currently in use were watching.
But the average overnight rating of 49.0/73 for Super Bowl 50 came up just short of the 49.7 record ratings set last year in a thrilling game between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks that was decided in the final minutes.
The final numbers will come out on Monday afternoon, according to John Ourand of the Sports Business Journal, meaning CBS could still set the record or it could fall behind Super Bowl XVI. The 1982 game between the San Francisco 49ers and Cincinnati Bengals was the record holder for more than three decades before it was finally topped by Super Bowl XLIX.
The top television markets for Super Bowl 50 were Nashville (57.7), Albuquerque (56.9), Norfolk (56.8), Greensboro (56.7) and Greenville (56.6), according to Ourand. Charlotte wasn’t far behind with a 55.9 overnight rating and Denver came in at 53.9.
