The Dolphins still have a chance to make it back-to-back years in the NFL Playoffs, but their rocky road may come to an end in Week 14. Miami will have to defend its home field against a streaking Patriots team to keep any hope of a winning season alive. The two AFC East rivals meet on Monday Night Football at 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN (live stream).

Tom Brady has kept his MVP pace at age 40, leading the league in passing yards through three quarters of the season. He’ll be without his favorite target on Monday, however. All-Pro Rob Gronkowski was suspended for one game after injuring Bills cornerback Tre’Davious White with an egregious cheap shot late in last week’s win. With Martellus Bennett on injured reserve, it will be up to Dwayne Allen to carry the team’s offensive production at tight end.

  • Odds: New England is favored by 11 points.

Patriots at Dolphins news:

With a commanding 33-9 lead in the fourth quarter, the Dolphins decided to attempt an onside kick — which surprised some fans and players. Gase wanted his team to keep its foot on the gas pedal until the game was over. It worked too; they got the ball back.

The football world actually doubted the New England Patriots early in the season. With the defense looking awful, the Patriots limped out to a 2-2 start and looked far from a Super Bowl favorite.

Now the team has won eight consecutive games and can clinch its 14th AFC East title in 15 years with a win against the Miami Dolphins in Week 14. The weirdest part is the Patriots defense is playing really well and allowed just 489 yards and 20 points in the last two weeks combined.

Do the Dolphins have any answers for a resurgent Patriot defense?

After allowing 32 points per game in a 2-2 start, New England has allowed only 11.9 points per game in its eight-game winning streak. That’s bad news for a Miami team that’s struggled to score throughout 2017. The Dolphins have scored 20 points or fewer in eight of their 12 games this season. That includes a 17-point showing in Foxborough just two weeks ago.

Patriots at Dolphins prediction:

Not surprisingly the entire set of eight experts chose the Patriots to win in their Week 14 picks.
