When the Cleveland Browns took Myles Garrett with the No. 1 overall pick of the 2017 NFL Draft, the former Texas A&M pass-rusher had one clear goal in his rookie year: sack Ben Roethlisberger.

The No. 1 overall pick has had his sights set on Pittsburgh’s quarterback since he was drafted.
He didn’t get to do it when the Browns lost to the Steelers in Week 1. Garrett was sidelined with a high ankle sprain until Week 5 of his rookie season. But he has one more shot this week to take Roethlisberger to the ground.
Steelers right tackle Marcus Gilbert said that the Steelers will rest Roethlisberger and running back Le’Veon Bell on Sunday. Gilbert later walked back that statement, but Roethlisberger and Bell sat out of Friday’s practice for non-injury-related reasons, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
If Roethlisberger sits, Landry Jones will take over at quarterback. But Garrett is hoping Roethlisberger plays:
The Browns haven’t won a game this season, and this is their last shot to match last year’s 1-15 record. That still feels like a long shot against one of the top Super Bowl contenders out of the AFC. If Garrett gets to sack Roethlisberger, at least that will be one good memory from a deeply disappointing season.
During an interview on draft night, Garrett immediately threw shade at his new division rival, saying that Roethlisberger was his first target. “I’ve been watching him for a very long time, just growing up,” Garrett said. “I finally get to face him and scheme against him and his left tackle and the whole offensive line and know what I’m up against.”
It was a bold statement from a rookie player, but Garrett is already living up to his hype. He has six sacks through just 10 games in Cleveland. And he’s hoping to add one more on Roethlisberger this week.
