Eagles set NFL record in historic NFC Championship rout of Commanders

The Eagles broke an NFL record that had stood for nearly 35 years with their amazing performance against the Commanders in the NFC Championship.

The Philadelphia Eagles were a powerhouse running team all year. With Saquon Barkley rushing for more than 2,000 yards in the regular season and Jalen Hurts punishing opposing defenses in short yardage situations, the Eagles made running the ball the foundational part of their offense. Now Philly is running all the way to Super Bowl LIX after a monster performance in the NFC Championship Game against the Washington Commanders.

The Eagles beat the Commanders, 55-23, to punch their ticket to the Super Bowl for the second time in the last three years. Philadelphia was dominant in the trenches, pounding the run all afternoon on their way to a record-breaking scoring day.

The Eagles rushed for seven touchdowns against Washington, starting with a score on Barkley’s very first carry of the game. The Commanders were so scared of Hurts’ Tush Push that they briefly turned the game into a farce by repeatedly trying to jump the line. Philadelphia’s line manhandled Washington up front, and it helped produce the highest scoring conference championship game in league history.

By scoring 55 points, the Eagles topped the 1991 Buffalo Bills for the most points ever scored in the game before the Super Bowl. The ‘91 Bills dropped 51 points on the Raiders, but that record falls almost 35 years later.

Hurts was fantastic, throwing for 246 yards and one touchdown, while rushing for three touchdowns in the win. Barkley had 118 yards on 15 carries and scored three rushing touchdowns. A.J. Brown caught Philly’s only passing touchdown.

The Eagles now play the winner of the Chiefs and Bills in Super Bowl LIX. Here’s everything you need to know about how to watch the Super Bowl in 2025.
