Flyers Vs. Bruins Score: Jaromir Jagr’s 1600th Career Point Helps Flyers Beat Bruins

The Boston Bruins raised their championship banner Thursday night, but the Philadelphia Flyers but an abrupt end to the honeymoon period, winning 2-1 behind goals from Claude Giroux and Jakub Voracek.

Jaromir Jagr assisted Giroux's goal for his 1,600th career point. After three years playing hockey (or, since the game was played in Boston, hawkey) in Russia, Jagr returned to become the NHL's active leading point-scorer once again. The 39 year-old is ninth on the all-time scoring list, and the Flyers hope he and seven other newcomers will be the key to getting over the playoff hump that's plagued them for years.

Included in that group is goalie Ilya Bryzgalov, who saved 22 shots in his first game after signing a nine-year, $51 million contract. The Bruins failed to get much offense going against him despite returning the vast majority of the team that won the Stanley Cup last year. Goalie Tim Thomas, winner of the Conn Smythe Trophy for Stanley Cup Finals MVP, wasn't quite as staunch at the net, but he's probably still hung over from drinking grain alcohol or something out of the Cup. Hockey players are crazy.
