Darryl Sutter Hired As Los Angeles Kings Head Coach

After days of speculation, the news is official. Darryl Sutter is the head coach of the Los Angeles Kings, effectively replacing Terry Murray and pushing John Stevens, who held the interim tag for two games, back to an assistant coaching role. LA Kings Insider has details.

As noted before, immigration issues prevent Sutter from immediately joining the team, but he will take over when the team returns to Los Angeles. The only remaining question is the make-up of the rest of the coaching staff, although John Stevens is expected to stay aboard for at least the rest of this season.

We don’t know exactly when Sutter will be introduced as coach of the Kings, but it’ll likely be at some point next week. Given those immigration issues, Stevens will certainly be behind the bench for the Kings on Saturday night against Detroit, and it’s almost certain that he’ll coach on Monday night in Toronto as well.

Sutter will likely make his coaching debut for Los Angeles in their next home game Thursday against another team with a new head coach, the rival Anaheim Ducks.
