Darryl Sutter Officially Named Los Angeles Kings Head Coach

It had been all but official, and now, it's official. Darryl Sutter is the head coach of the Los Angeles Kings. He replaces John Stevens, who held the job for a week after former coach Terry Murray was fired. The team announced the news in a press release on Tuesday.

Sutter will begin his head coaching duties with the Kings when they take the ice for practice this Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Toyota Sports Center in El Segundo.
Following practice the Kings will hold a news conference featuring Lombardi and Sutter with the news conference slated to begin at 1 p.m. It will be streamed live by Kings Vision on LAKings.com and will be hosted by Bob Miller.

Sutter's hire had a few complications. He had to work out a financial arrangement with the Calgary Flames, who were still paying him as their former coach and general manager, and he also had to work on immigration concerns from Canada. But now he's in Los Angeles and he'll be in charge of the team come Wednesday morning.

Stevens will be retained by the club for at least the remainder of the season as an assistant to Sutter.
