Red Wings Vs. Wild: Teams Locked Into Defensive Battle Through Two Periods

Jimmy Howard and Niklas Backstrom could continue their shutouts throughout this entire game and no one would probably blink. The Detroit Red Wings and Minnesota Wild are still scoreless through two periods of play in Minnesota. The Red Wings are outshooting the Wild 21-13 through two periods and outshot the Wild 8-5 in the second period.

This game is featuring just a bunch of sound, defensive hockey with both teams seeing lower shot totals and both teams not throwing the body around as much either with a total of 23 hits in the game, Wild are outhitting 14-9.

The story of this game thus far is the play of the two goaltenders. Jimmy Howard has made 13 saves thus far into the game and Niklas Backstrom has 21 saves. This game could very well come down to the first team scoring will win. When you play a defensive style of hockey, those types of games happen often.
