Sharks Vs. Penguins: Patrick Marleau Scores OT Winner For San Jose With 4 Seconds Left
With time running down in the third period of Wednesday's game between the Pittsburgh Penguins and San Jose Sharks, Tyler Kennedy drove to the front of Antti Niemi's net and got his stick on a loose puck. It squeaked across the goal line and the Penguins suddenly had life.
It was the second goal of the game for Kennedy and it earned the home team a point in this one, but Patrick Marleau wouldn't be upstaged on this one. With just four seconds left in overtime, Marleau did this.
It was Marleau's second big scoring chance in the extra session after Marc-Andre Fleury made a gigantic save on a breakaway earlier in the overtime. At Fear The Fin, they discussed how those late regulation goals are usually back breakers. It wasn't on this night for the Sharks, though, and as a result, they've now won 14 of their last 17 games.
James Neal and Matt Niskanen didn't do much in their Pittsburgh debuts, aside from a bit of noticable physical play from Neal. At Pensburgh, they called this one a frustrating result after a solid 64 minute, 56 second effort.
