Sharks Vs. Ducks: Sharks Three First Period Goals Enough To Defeat Ducks; Win 4-3

The San Jose Sharks came back from a three goal lead against the Phoenix Coyotes on Tuesday night and posted a three goal lead against the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday night. This time, the Ducks couldn’t overcome the early goals as they are defeated by the Sharks 4-3.

Dany Heatley got the scoring started for the Sharks, scoring 14 seconds into the first period. Ben Eager and Jason Demers scored the other two goals in the first to give the Sharks an early 3-0 lead. The Ducks scored twice in the second from goals by Joffrey Lupul and Cam Fowler, but the Sharks’ Ryan Clowe’s powerplay goal at 15:39 in the second ends up as the game winner.

Saku Koivu recorded his 500th career assist in the game, coming off of Fowler’s powerplay goal in the second period. Corry Perry had a two point night as well as Ryan Clowe and Dan Boyle.

The Sharks chased starting goaltender Jonas Hiller after just 10 shots in the first. Hiller made 7 saves in the first 11:15 of the game and was pulled for Curtis McElhinney. McElhinney made 17 saves in the losing effort. For the Sharks, Antti Niemi played a full game after being pulled against the Coyotes the night before, making 27 saves on 30 shots.

The Ducks will face off against the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday while the Sharks will face the Boston Bruins on Saturday afternoon.
