Rangers Vs. Red Wings: Defenses Keep Game Scoreless After First Period

The Red Wings and Rangers have skated to a scoreless first period thanks in part to the stellar play of Rangers’ Martin Biron and Detroit’s Jimmy Howard.

The Rangers outshot the Red Wings 13-9 in the first period and both goaltenders have stopped all of the shots they have seen thus far. The Rangers are keeping the game fairly physical outhitting the Red Wings 12-6 in the first period.

This game has been relatively well disciplined as well with both teams each taking only one penalty in the game. The Rangers penalty came from Michael Sauer early in the first period and the Detroit penalty came from Niklas Kronwall late in the first.

If the pace of this game continues, the first goal scored could be the only goal scored in the game. Both teams have been playing stellar defense and both goaltenders have made the saves that have needed to be made.
