Rangers Vs. Red Wings: Two Third Period Red Wings Goals Gives Detroit 3-2 Victory

After scoring only one combined goal in the first two periods, the Rangers and Red Wings combined for four goals in the third period with the Red Wings coming out on top 3-2.

Pavel Datsyuk got the scoring started at the start of the second period with his lone goal of the game. Datsyuk’s goal was assisted by Jiri Hudler and Dan Cleary. That goal was the only goal for 40 minutes despite both teams combining for 59 shots in the two periods.

The third period started as quickly as the second period did with Derek Stepan tying the game at one at the 3:09 mark of the third period. His goal was followed by Jiri Hudler’s only goal of the game at 5:04 of the third period. Drew Miller gave the Wings a two goal lead at 14:37 in the third and the Rangers only other goal came a minute later from Brandon Dubinsky.

Jiri Hudler and Pavel Datsyuk each had a goal and an assist for the Red Wings while six Rangers players registered a point. Detroit’s Jimmy Howard got the win in net, making 45 saves on 47 Rangers shots while Martin Biron made 32 saves in the losing effort.

The Red Wings will travel to Atlanta to take on the Thrashers on Friday while the Red Wings will stay at home and face the Predators on Wednesday.
